Why Lived Experience Makes Me a Better Support for Neurodivergent Professionals

You don’t have to be neurodivergent to understand what it means to be neurodivergent. While it’s a unique experience for each individual, gaining a deeper understanding can help foster empathy, reduce barriers, and create environments where everyone can thrive.
While I am not neurodivergent myself, I’ve had the privilege of supporting two neurodivergent family members and working alongside over 50 neurodivergent professionals and business owners over the last five years. These experiences have taught me that managing priorities, remembering tasks, and navigating day-to-day life is far more complex than using a planner or setting a reminder.

Neurodivergence isn’t just about how someone works—it’s about how they experience the world.
I’ve seen first hand how:
Overwhelm hits differently when executive function challenges make task-switching difficult
Traditional time management doesn’t work when your brain doesn’t naturally categorise priorities the same way
Organisation isn’t just about tools, it’s about support, accountability, and systems that fit YOU.
Keeping relationships, friendships and managing social energy impacts daily productivity - what looks like “flaking” is often burnout from masking all day.
Forgetting to respond to a phone call, text or email, isn’t carelessness - it’s often a working memory issue.
How This Experience Shapes My Work
At The Executive Solutions Agency, we know that productivity isn’t one-size-fits-all. Instead, we help neurodivergent entrepreneurs and professionals build personalised systems that work with their brains—not against them.
Because I’ve supported my family and clients through the daily realities of neurodivergence, I know that:
A to-do list isn’t helpful if it’s overwhelming. We create clear, structured action plans.
Reminders don’t work if they get ignored. We provide proactive accountability without pressure.
Life outside of work impacts productivity. We offer support that takes the whole person into account.
From One-to-One Support to Inclusive Teams
Before founding this business, I spent 17 years in the construction industry. That experience taught me how demanding fast-paced, high-pressure environments can be and how few systems are designed with neurodivergent people in mind.
Now, alongside our virtual PA and support worker services, we also work with employers in construction and beyond to create inclusive teams and recruitment processes, and to help staff access the government-funded support they’re entitled to through Access to Work.
Our team offers:
Awareness training for site and office teams
Co-coaching for neurodivergent staff and their peers
Inclusive recruitment support
Access to Work guidance and support worker services
Because inclusion shouldn’t be an add-on. It should be built in from the foundations.
Why This Matters for Business Owners
Many neurodivergent entrepreneurs struggle alone because they don’t trust that others will “get it.” And I understand that.
That’s why lived experience matters. It’s what enables my team and me to support, not just organise. To build systems rooted in empathy, not assumptions. And to offer guidance that honours the whole person behind the job title.
f you’re a neurodivergent business owner looking for support—or a team leader ready to make your workplace more inclusive, we’d love to help.
